Local Nuances for UK Travellers
The following nuances are particularly relevant to UK travellers using Airalo eSIM plans. These are based on our team's experience and user feedback.
- Post-Brexit roaming: UK travellers no longer benefit from EU roaming rights. Airalo eSIM plans are an effective and affordable alternative to expensive roaming charges from UK providers.
- Device unlocking: Many UK devices purchased on contract are network-locked. Unlock your device before travelling — most UK providers do this free of charge after the contract period.
- Emergency calls: Airalo eSIM plans do not support emergency calls (999/112). Always keep your UK physical SIM active for emergency use.
- US network compatibility: Some older UK devices may not support the frequency bands used by US networks. Check band compatibility before purchasing a US plan.
- Japan registration: Some Japan plans require registration with a Japanese address. Check plan requirements carefully before purchasing.

Areas Not Covered or Limitations
The following areas and scenarios are not covered or have significant limitations:
- Airborne (in-flight) connectivity — Airalo eSIMs do not work on aircraft
- Maritime (at sea) — coverage is not available on open water
- Underground transport in some cities — signal may be unavailable in tunnels
- Remote rural areas in many countries — coverage is concentrated in urban and suburban areas
- Some Pacific island nations — limited or no Airalo coverage
- North Korea, Cuba, and certain sanctioned territories — no coverage available
- Antarctica — no coverage available
